Personal:

Married to Elizabeth (she got me running in 2003). We have three boys, Lucas (12) , Sam (8) and Ollie (5).

Many years ago, I read that the AVERAGE male is capable of a 2:40 marathon.  I decided to test that theory.  I began running in 2003 with Top of Utah as my first marathon (4:24).  I need 3 more minutes.

Traditional Murray 5K for the fourth of July.  I've run the race 7 or 8 times now, so it is a great gauge of my fitness.  I'm little bummed on the short course, but not much I can do about it except run a little extra down the chute!  Started the race behind Sasha and Dennis.  After a mile, I went with Sasha and another younger runner.  Sasha put a little distance on my at the end of mile 2, but I was making up ground the last 1/2 mile of the race.  Finished 2nd Master, a few steps behind Sasha--I'm not sure how I was 8-9 seconds back of his time since I was close to him at the finish.

Highlight of the day was my 7-year old's first 5K in 26 minutes!

Your kid is just like you; a screaming fast runner.

Thanks! I'm amazed at his overall time, since I clocked him at the track a week before and expected a 30+ minute race.

Congratulations on the breakthrough. Your time converts to something around 17:34, but you have to remember that Murray Fun Days is a rather slow course - perhaps the slowest of all trusted courses in the state - when it is run along the certified route, that is. I am guessing that if you run the same quality performance in Draper Days, you will run around 17:10. But it is quite possible that you might be on the upsurge, and in that case you have a good shot at sub-17:00 on a legitimate non-aided course.

Thanks Sasha--I hope I am on an upsurge. What's your goal at Draper?

Mark - it would be nice if I could go under 17:00. If you are running it, we can work together towards that. If there is someone to follow, just tuck behind, otherwise trade leads every 2 minutes or so if we feel equal, otherwise the stronger one takes more of a burden.
