Personal:

Married to Elizabeth (she got me running in 2003). We have three boys, Lucas (12) , Sam (8) and Ollie (5).

Many years ago, I read that the AVERAGE male is capable of a 2:40 marathon.  I decided to test that theory.  I began running in 2003 with Top of Utah as my first marathon (4:24).  I need 3 more minutes.

Speed work at East High School.  Another late night run after dinner.  I ran a 1 mile warm up and 1 mile cool down with 10 x 800 with 200 recovery in-between.  In theory, these 800 should predict your marathon pace.  I did this workout before Boston this year and averaged about 2:58.  Today, I averaged about 2:48.  I ran a 3:07 at Boston and had a major "boink!"  I hope a sub 3:00 is my future at Tuscon this December.  This was my last track workout until the marathon.  I have a 22-miler on Saturday that should test my endurance level.  I've been running 7 x 200 on a weekly basis to help my speed, but my mileage is down which may hurt my endurance.

Good lick on your saturday endurance run. Hope you have a fun run.

Great speed work out. Good luck with the 22 miler. I'm trying with all my might to not comment on the major "boink". There has always been a big debate on whether or not to run a marathon with loaded guns.

Thanks for the comment guys. My current schedule calls for 13 miles next week with 10 being at race pace. The week before the marathon it calls for 10 miles with all 10 being at race pace. I used this schedule before Boston and was pretty tired before the race. I'm thinking of skipping the race pace training this year...any thoughts? (btw: my race pace would be 6:50/mile)

I personally think that many miles at MP this close to the race is too much - especially the week before the marathon.
